▶ Video Walkthrough

Watch the full app walkthrough to see exactly how Klyx Store Backup works — from installation to restoring your store in one click.

1 Installation

1

Find Klyx Store Backup on the Shopify App Store and click "Install". The app is fully embedded inside Shopify Admin — no separate login or dashboard to manage.

2

You'll be redirected through Shopify's secure OAuth flow. Approve the requested permissions — these allow the app to read your store data for backup and write it back during a restore. No third-party credentials are required from you.

3

That's it. Your first full backup fires automatically right after install — covering all 10 resource types. From this point on, a daily backup runs every night at midnight UTC with zero action required from you.

2 The Dashboard

The dashboard is your command center — it shows you the current state of your store protection at a glance and lets you take action immediately.

A

Quick stats panel — shows your last backup date and status, total items backed up, storage used, and how many backups are available in your history. Turns green on success, red if a backup ever fails.

B

"Backup Now" button — triggers a full on-demand backup immediately, outside of the automated schedule. Useful right before a major theme edit, a new app install, or a bulk product import.

C

Large-change alert banner — if a backup detects that 50 or more items disappeared compared to the previous snapshot, a warning banner appears here automatically. This protects you from silent bulk deletions going unnoticed.

✨ Tip: On the Starter plan and above, real-time backups also fire automatically within 30 minutes whenever a product or collection is created, updated, or deleted — so you're protected between scheduled runs too.

3 Backup History & Logs

Navigate to Backups in the left sidebar to see every backup ever taken for your store — filterable, sortable, and instantly actionable.

1

Each backup card shows the date and time, what triggered it (scheduled cron, manual, or webhook), the number of items captured, the backup size, and the final status (completed, failed, or running).

2

Use the filter bar at the top to narrow by resource type (e.g. only show backups that captured products), date range, or trigger type. Pagination keeps the list fast even with hundreds of backups.

3

Click any backup to open its detail view — a full activity log showing every single item that was captured, with per-item restore buttons and any errors or warnings encountered during that run.

Trigger types:cron (scheduled), manual (Backup Now), webhook (real-time), install (first-run)
Status values:pending → running → completed / failed
Resource types:products, collections, themes, customers, pages, blogs, metafields, metaobjects, navigation, settings

4 Restoring Your Store

Restoring is designed to be fast, safe, and precise. You choose exactly what to restore and preview the impact before anything changes in your live store.

1

Open any backup from your history and click "Restore". You'll be presented with three scope options: Full Store (restores everything), Resource Type (e.g. restore only your themes), or Single Item (one specific product, page, or theme file).

2

Preview before you commit. The restore preview screen shows you exactly how many items will be created, updated, or skipped — before you confirm. Nothing changes in your live store until you click the final confirm button.

3

Choose your conflict strategy — what the app should do if an item already exists in your store when the restore runs.

OverwriteReplace the existing item with the backed-up version. Use this to undo accidental edits.
SkipLeave existing items untouched. Only restore items that are missing from the store.
RenameCreate a copy with a suffix (e.g. "Product Title — Restored") so both versions exist side by side.
4

Click "Confirm Restore". The restore job runs in the background and you can track live progress on screen. You'll also receive an email notification when it completes.

✨ Restore History: Every restore job is logged under Restore → History — what was restored, when, by whom, and the full result log. You can cancel a running restore or retry a failed one from this same view.

5 Visual Diff Viewer

The diff viewer lets you compare any two backups side-by-side with field-level color coding — so you know exactly what changed and when, before you restore anything.

1

From any backup's detail page, click "Compare with another backup". Select the second backup you want to compare against — this can be any backup in your history.

2

The diff viewer opens with a side-by-side view. Each resource type is grouped, and individual items show only the fields that changed — not the entire object — so you can spot the difference instantly.

Added — item or field exists in the newer backup but not the older one
Deleted — item or field was present in the older backup but is now gone
Modified — item exists in both but one or more fields changed
3

Use the diff to audit changes before a restore — for example, confirm that only the intended products changed, or identify which theme file was edited that broke your storefront.

6 Settings & Alerts

Navigate to Settings to configure how the app behaves, where alerts go, and what gets backed up.

Setting What it does
Alert Email The email address that receives backup success/failure notifications, restore completion alerts, storage warnings, and large-change detection emails. Defaults to your Shopify account email.
Backup Frequency Choose between daily (all plans), every 6 hours (Growth+), or real-time webhook triggers (Starter+). Higher frequency = more protection, especially for active stores.
Resource Toggles Enable or disable individual resource types per backup. For example, turn off customer backups if you don't need them, to save storage and keep backups faster.
Retention Policy How many days of backup history to keep (7–365 days, plan-gated). Old backups outside this window are automatically purged to manage storage.
Real-time Backup When enabled (Starter+), a backup fires automatically within 30 minutes of any product or collection change via Shopify webhooks — not just on the daily schedule.
Data Region Choose US or EU for your backup storage location. EU storage ensures your data stays within the European Union — useful for GDPR-sensitive stores.
WhatsApp Alerts Enter your WhatsApp number to receive alerts on backup failure and large-change events via CallMeBot (Pro plan only).

7 Google Drive Export

Keep a personal copy of your backups outside of KLYX infrastructure — exported directly into your own Google Drive account.

1

In Settings, click "Connect Google Drive". You'll be redirected through Google's secure OAuth flow. Approve the Drive permission — the app only gets write access to files it creates itself.

2

Manual export: From any backup's detail page, click "Export to Google Drive". The backup snapshot is uploaded as a JSON file into a KLYX Store Backups folder in your Drive — instantly accessible and shareable.

3

Auto export: Enable "Auto-export to Google Drive" in Settings. Every completed backup is automatically pushed to your Drive — no manual action needed. Perfect for regulatory compliance or peace of mind.

⚠️ Google Drive export is available on the Growth and Pro plans. Connect your account in Settings first — backups taken before connecting can still be manually exported one at a time.

8 Cross-Store Restore (Pro)

On the Pro plan, you can restore a backup from one Shopify store directly into a different store — ideal for migrations, staging environments, and agency workflows.

1

Go to Restore → Cross-Store. Click "Connect a Store" and enter the target store's .myshopify.com domain. You'll go through Shopify's OAuth flow for that store to authorise the connection.

2

Once connected, select any backup from your source store's history and click "Restore to [target store]". Choose your scope and conflict strategy exactly as you would for a normal restore.

3

The restore runs against the target store. The source store's data is untouched. Cross-store connections can be disconnected at any time from the same view.

✨ Agency use-case: Back up a production store, then restore into a development or staging store with one click. No manual CSV exports, no copy-pasting — the full product catalog, collections, and navigation transfer automatically.
